Expansion of the Zone
The area of the Katowice Special Economic Zone was expanded by another 16 hectares of land in Knurów, close to Gliwice. The expansion was possible thanks to the efforts of the authorities of Knurów, a city inhabited by 40 thousand people. Knurów hopes that thanks to the inclusion of part of its area in the Zone it will develop quickly. The new areas of the Zone are excellently located in the vicinity of the national road no. 78.
The Polish Press Agency has been informed by the Head of the Gliwice Subzone, Jerzy Łoik, that there are already three subjects interested in investing in Knurów. Last year, investors of the whole Zone declared 36 new undertakings with the total value of about PLN 1.5 billion. As a result, at least 4.2 thousand new jobs will be created.
It is expected that the investments of the Katowice Special Economic Zone in 2007 will be worth PLN 1 billion and that they will create 3 thousand new jobs.
The editors of the monthly magazine Forbes proclaimed the Katowice Special Economic Zone the company of the year in Silesia.
