Top architects in Katowice

The Forum of Contemporary City started on Monday, 12 May. Discussions and lectures on the development of Katowice, with participation of eminent architects, artists, sociologists and politicians will last three days. The Forum will be held in a concert hall at the Academy of Music in Katowice.
The foreign guests include outstanding architects and urban planners, such as Kengo Kuma, Prof. Alfonso Acocella, Prof. Luigi Alini, Frits van Dongen, Dick van Gameren, Florian Rieglem, Roger Riewe and Jurgen Mayer H.

The objective of the event is to answer the following questions: What is Katowice like? How should it change to become more friendly and creative? How do other metropolises develop and what can we learn from them? The Forum is divided into three thematic parts:

Day 1:
"SimplyCity – Miasto… po prostu…"
Day 2:
"DenCity – Miasto… gęste…’’
Day 3:
"DiverCity – Miasto… różnorodne…"

The Forum is organised by the Institute of Contemporary City, which was founded by architects and urban planners, such as Tomasz Konior and Jan Kubec. The Silesian association draws on similar organisations operating in Basel and Barcelona. It also has an open interdisciplinary formula. Numerous artists have been invited to the Institute, including the famous sculptor Jarosław Kozakiewicz, author of the Park of Reconciliation Between Nations which is being created in the vicinity of the Auschwitz Museum.
The founders also include the director Magdalena Piekorz and Marian Oslislo, the Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. Piotr Uszok is also willing to cooperate with
the Institute.
