Mariacka and Dworcowa Streets as pedestrian zones

Gazeta Wyborcza reports that the works aiming at the renovation of Katowice centre have already been initiated. The first to undergo changes is Mariacka Street, Dworcowa Street is the next one to be turned into a pedestrian zone.
The whole investment, which consists among others of sewage system replacement, covering the street with granite flagstones, installing modern lighting and putting benches, will amount to 12 million zloty and will be entirely paid from the city budget.

Dworcowa Street will be renovated after the modernisation of Mariacka Street. Ultimately, the area will be full of restaurants and pubs and completely closed to traffic. It will be a popular meeting place for residents of Katowice.

A new face of the very city centre will also affect the investors’ interest and rise in prices of nearby premises. We can observe now in the capital of Silesia increased activities of developers dealing with commercial real estate.

From May this year, Mariacka Street will be closed to traffic as the works will take place along the entire length of the street as well as in the neighbouring Stanisława Street and Starowiejska Street. Tylna Mariacka Street will be prepared specially for drivers and the existing outbuildings will be knocked down and the street will be renovated as well.
