The Silesian Province – again the most attractive for investors

The Silesian Province was announced the province of the greatest investment attractiveness in 2007, just like last year and two years ago. Such conclusions can be drawn from the report of the Gdańsk Institute for Market Economics and of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency.

The Dolnośląskie Province was ranked second and the Mazowieckie Province third. The ranking
is closed by the Świętokrzyskie, Lubelskie and Podlaskie Provinces.

The provinces were rated in three categories: industrial, service and high-tech activity.

The assessment was made on the basis of: a survey of the Trade and Investment Promotion Section of the Embassies of the Republic of Poland in the most important investor countries,
accessibility and quality of potential investment locations and indexes of investment attractiveness, which include:

  • transport accessibility,
  • labour resources,
  • market absorption capacity,
  • economic and social infrastructure,
  • economic development level,
  • environmental condition,
  • general safety level,
  • level of provinces’ activity towards investors.

In Silesia, the most attractive subareas for industrial activity are: the central Silesia and the area of Rybnik and Jastrzębie. In the sphere of service and high-tech activity the area which turned out to be most attractive was the central Silesia.

‘In the coming years, one cannot expect any significant changes in the ranking, because the gap between the top three, the next two provinces (Mazowieckie and Wielkopolskie) and the other groups is large and virtually impossible to be eliminated quickly,’ said Tomasz Kalinowski,
Project Manager from the Gdańsk Institute for Market Economics, during a press conference.
