Newspaper edited by children from Iskierka Foundation

The Iskierka Foundation was created by Jola Czernicka, whose son suffered from leukemia.

He was depressed and did not want to fight with the disease, so Jola tried to motivate him by telling him he was a general and his red blood cells were soldiers. For each battle won, i.e. each positive test results, an award was organized – a trip to the mountains, a film in a cinema or a visit to the zoo. The boy soon regained self-confidence and this is an invaluable medicine. Iskierka was created thanks the bond between parents and their ill children.

Children from Iskierka give performances, organize meetings with famous people, visit interesting places and spend holidays together – all this in order to distract their attention from the sickness and to find strength to fight.

The children also visited the editorial office of "Gazeta Wyborcza," in order to find out how to edit a daily newspaper, how long it took to write an article, what the job of an editor was and if people liked when a photo was being taken of them. They asked a lot of questions.

When the children decided to edit their own newspaper, Gazeta Wyborcza offered technical support. They created their own editorial office, chose the chief editor and came up with the topics for the newspaper. It will be exceptional – colourful, surprising and moving. The junior authors write about their life with cancer, about the everyday battles and joys.

The children work hard, they look for advertisers without whom it will not be possible to publish the newspaper. Part of the advertisement income be spent on publishing the issue, and 75% will be given to Iskierka Foundation.

The special issue of Iskierka newspaper will be published on 6 December.
Nestin Polska is one of the sponsors of the event.
