Tram line to be built along the Silesian Intercity Road
Few years back the idea of building a tram line along Roździeńskiego Avenue in Katowice was unrealistic. However, good transport connection with that place will be necessary within the next few years because of the investments planned.
The new building of the Silesian Museum, the International Congress Centre and the new seat of the National Symphonic Orchestra of the Polish Radio in Katowice are going to be located there. Also a housing estate is going to be built in that area.
The line is to be included in the plans which are being prepared at the moment for the Municipal Office by the Office of Regional Development. The trams will run on the north side of the Avenue, along the area belonging to the closed “Katowice” coal mine. The land development plan is to be ready in March. The city announced its intention to use European Union subsidies for the development of the tram line system.
