Tychy - one of the two biggest investments subsidized by the EU gathers pace

The first contract for construction work, with the value of over EUR 20 million, concerning the execution of the biggest investment in the history of the City of Tychy was signed on 19th October.

It will still be this year that the borough of Tychy will receive an advance payment of over EUR 15 million for the execution of the project "Sewage Management in Tychy". Altogether, the subsidy from the European Cohesion Fund will amount to over EUR 75 million. This is one of the two biggest projects of this kind subsidized in Poland in 2004.

The signed contract - the first of 6 contracts for construction work under the project - concerns the construction of sanitary and rain sewage system in Czułów, a district of Tychy.

The construction work will be performed by the international consortium of the following companies: P.R.I. "POL-AQUA" S.A. (Piaseczno), Firma Inżynierska ALL-PRO Sp. z o.o. (Bielsko-Biała) and Budownictwo Drogowe ALTCOM (Ukraine, Donetsk). The construction of the sewage system in Czułów will start at the turn of the second and third quarters of 2007 and it will finish in June 2009.

- Thanks to the long awaited construction of the sewage system in Czułów the infrastructure of Tychy will, in this respect, become one of the most modern infrastructures in the country - says Zbigniew Gieleciak, the Plenipotentiary of the Mayor for the Execution of the Project "Sewage Management in Tychy" and the President of RCGW S.A.

The resolution, which has been recently passed by the Council of the City of Tychy, on allotting an additional sum of about PLN 66 million from the city budget for the execution of the project will speed up the work. - I really believe that the additional means for the execution of the project that we will allocate from the city budget are not an expense but an investment that will bring notable benefits, both to the city and to all inhabitants of Tychy - said Andrzej Dziuba, the Mayor of the City of Tychy.

Tychy, as one of the first beneficiaries of 2004 of the European Cohesion Fund, satisfied the conditions for obtaining an advance payment for the execution of the undertaking set by the European Commission. The first condition was the European Commission's positive assessment of the procedure for Evaluating the Impact of the Project on Environment. The other condition for receiving the advance payment was signing contracts with contractors for the amount of min. 20% of the sum allocated by the Cohesion Fund for the execution of the whole undertaking, which took place on 19th October 2006.

As regards the amount of subsidy, the Sewage Management in Tychy is the second project subsidized by the European Cohesion Fund in 2004 in the sector of environment. This investment includes creation and modernization of about 322 km of sanitary and rain sewage system, adjustment of 32.2 km of ditches and streams, as well as modernization of sludge management in the Sewage Treatment Plant Urbanowice. The project will be implemented in the following districts of Tychy: Wygorzele, Jaroszowiec, Cielmice, Stare Tychy, Zwierzyniec, Wartogłowiec, Zawi¶ć, Wilkowyje, M±kołowiec and Czułów. The project will be executed within 3 years.
