Second Life of Katowice
Second Life has got more than 8 million users all around the world. After a successful log in a player creates their own atawar, that is a virtual being living in a virtual reality. Atawar works, makes business, buys and sells, eats out, travels and visits various places.
So far Second Life has been a mirror-like reflection of only one European city, i.e. Amsterdam. Yet, Supremum Group, a Kraków-based company, decided to include Polish cities as well, first Kraków and later on other cities, such as Katowice. The virtual city of Katowice will have all the highlights of the real Katowice – the roundabout and Spodek (the saucer-shaped concert hall). Alas, the Katowice market square in its present state is not a pride of the city… That is why Gazeta Wyborcza suggested including in Second Life the market square and the Korfanty Avenue in its shape after the reconstruction.
Thanks to this idea one does not have to wait for the "walk" in the new city centre another few years. Everyone will be able to see how the city will change. Authorities of Katowice are very fond of this idea and talks with the Kraków-based company have already started.
