Katowice – Streets Full of Art
It was Tomasz Pietrzykowski, the Governor of the Province, who hit up on the idea of erecting modern sculptures. He dreams of making Katowice the place vibrant with life. In his mind’s eye he sees tourists strolling through the city centre and admiring the works of art. They are to be placed on the squares, in the office blocks and even at the crossroads. The idea was appreciated by Piotr Uszok, the Mayor of the city Katowice, as well as by Professor Marian Oslislo who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Academy of Fine Arts in the city.
"Our aim is to make Katowice more attractive and the Academy of Fine Arts better known in the consciousness of the inhabitants" - says the Professor Oslislo.
On Wednesday, together with Uszok and Pietrzykowski, Professor Oslislo presented first projects of the people connected with the Academy of Fine Arts which are to decorate the city. One of them is called: "The Alphabet of the Town."
"At different points, there will be signs in various fonts and with descriptions. We can also place some poems beginning with individual letters. In this way, the route of design would come into being." - convinced Oslislo.
The entire composition should be complemented with the map of roads on which such visual riddles could be found.
The decision about the erection of the sculptures on the streets will be taken soon.
