Arrangements to create a direct air link between the USA and the Pyrzowice Airport - support of local authorities

At present, the USA is directly connected with the airports in Warsaw-Okęcie, Kraków-Balice, and, since June, also with Rzeszów. Jarosław Kołodziejczyk, member of the Board of the Silesian Province, wants to meet with the authorities of the LOT Polish Airlines to talk about flights from Pyrzowice to New York or Chicago. - These cities are inhabited by 10 mln Poles, including inhabitants of Silesia. I am convinced that a direct connection with the USA will attract a lot of interest.

Transatlantic flights are possible thanks to the "open sky" agreement between the EU and the USA. American airlines will fly regularly to Polish cities, also to those with smaller airports, such as Pyrzowice.

The Pyrzowice Airport is ready for receiving transatlantic flights. Boeings 767 and 787 (the more recent version), which have just been bought by LOT, may easily land on this airport. Moreover, a new terminal for over three million travellers (twice as many as today) will open in June. The check-in facilities of this terminal will meet not only the European requirements but also the strict American ones.

For the time being, talks about direct connections with the USA will be conducted with LOT, whose decision depends on the profitability of flights, each of which costs about 140 thousand dollars.

However, it is possible that a different airline may fly from Pyrzowice to the USA instead of LOT. It may be Prima Charter (formerly Fischer Air), which is looking for a new base and whose representatives have recently visited Pyrzowice and admitted they are planning to launch flights to the USA.
