The dome in Katowice stirs up envy in Wrocław

According to Gazeta Wyborcza, the Roundabout of Art [Rondo Sztuki] received first guests yesterday.

The host of the building is the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, whereas the city covers the maintenance costs. The interior of the dome delights visitors and even fills some of them with envy. Prof. Jacek Szewczyk, Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, admitted that his Academy would also be interested in such space.

The dome houses two art galleries, a musical stage and a café which is to be opened in the middle of April. In the opinion of many guests, the building looks better from the inside than from the outside. - Those who will come here in the evening will feel as if they were on the roof of the world - recommended Prof. Marian Oslislo, Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. Indeed, the dome is situated at the intersection of two important routes and all visitors have the impression that they are standing in the very heart of the city.

However, the Academy of Fine Arts will make sure that the Roundabout is famous not only famous for its views. The large ground-level gallery will host acknowledged artists and prestigious collective exhibitions. A review of works from the International Triennale in Kraków (the best event of this kind in Europe) is scheduled for August. It will also be a shame to miss the exhibition of prints and drawings by Roland Topor - brilliant French illustrator and writer of Polish descent - which is to be held in autumn. The gallery on the upper floor is at the students’ disposal, but it is also an excellent place for presenting video art.
